Philip and I shared our day and month of birth and the stage of the Royal Exchange in Moby-Dick and later at The Gateway, Chester, where I offered my Marshal Zhukhov to his towering performance as 'Uncle Joe' Stalin in David Pinner's incredible work " Teddy Bears Picnic" directed by Philip Partridge.
An example of his astonishing intellect was that he was 'off the book' and word perfect in the mammoth Stalin role right from the beginning of rehearsals.
Philip was probably he greatest and most naturally gifted Actor I have worked with. His passing is a tragic loss to our profession and all humanity.

A wonderful Welsh voice. He narrated the book in audio, " How Green Was my Valley"
Its over 16 hours of running time, and in those 16 magical hours, he made every charactor come alive. I have laughed and cried listening to Philip Madoc read outloud the full story many times.
Beautiful story of Wales....read by the rich wonderful voice of a true Welshman.
