Showing as part of the BBC’s Battle of Britain season, one-off drama First Light tells the true story of Geoffrey Wellum, the Spitfire pilot who was just 18 when he joined 92 Squadron.
The compelling drama is interspersed with personal recollections from the adult Wellum, while his younger self is played by Sam Heughan, whose previous credits include the BBC’s Doctors and the West End transfer of Nicholas De Jongh’s Plague Over England.
Currently in Northampton rehearsing for the Royal & Derngate’s new production of The Talented Mr Ripley (September 17-October 9), in which he plays Richard Greenleaf, Sam talked to Scott Matthewman about the film.
- First Light is on BBC2 tonight, Tuesday, September 14, at 9pm, and on the BBC HD channel tonight at 10.30pm. It will be available on iPlayer for 7 days after broadcast.

I have just seen First Light and truly enjoyed it. I was particularly moved by the toast to the fliers at the end and I would appreciate being able to copy of it to use at at servicemen's functions.
Your assistance would be appreciated.
