It looks like ITV is raiding the Harry Potter trough with fervour. After snapping up Rupert Grint to star in forthcoming autumn drama Driving Lessons, comes the news that the network have signed Daniel Radcliffe for a new production called My Boy Jack.
The production, which is being made by Ecosse Films, will follow the relationship between Rudyard Kipling and his son Jack - with Radcliffe in the title role. Kipling spent the last twenty years of his life searching to find out what happened to his son John (Jack), who had gone missing during the Battle of Loos in 1915.
He had only got into the army because of his father’s influence - poor eyesight rendered him medically unfit. David Hay will play Kipling.
The drama is part of the plan to broaden the appeal of ITV’s programming to a wider audience and bring in new stars. As The Stage exclusively revealed earlier this year, the network revealed it was lining up a drama by Tony Merchant, entitled Whistleblowers.
ok ok ok...Sorry but I don't get it, this is a TV series, like forever or for a few weeks, I love the content and it is not just stupid drama serie, Ecosse Films is a very imporant production film company having many many nominations and BAFTAS awards.
But I am a fan of Daniel Radcliffe and I don't understand when in the world he is going to have the time to start filming this production.
He will finish in October Harry Potter the 5th movie, then he will prepare for Equus, then he will be on stage for 16 weeks, from February to June, then he will return to Harry Potter, now I don't get when he will do this project....!
Hi Mark. You did nail it on the head by saying it was probably just DL. Sad but true. I was looking forward to something with Rupert. But perhaps he will do a movie during his time off if he can. :) Good luck to Dan.
Wow I cannot believe Dan is on a roll, he is been pursue by a lot of producers, film, theater, TV, I cannot believe Dan is in so much demand right now!
One thing is for sure, we will see this news all over the main news sites, CNN, MSNBC, Yahoo, etc … once there is a small news about Dan it seems like the main Internet sites love to post news about him.
About the plot of the production, I cannot believe what a great role is going to get, Dan sure is getting so many different roles. Good for him!

For once I think this project is SUPER, if Dan had to deal with ITV then that would have been a huge mistake, but Ecosse Film production is a very nice film production, just check their site and you'll see how many nominations and awards they have (Oscar, BAFTA, Golden Globes)
I am glad Dan was asked to take part of this production, a war movie will be perfect for his resume, and he will have a future as an actor after HP.
Mark, way to call a bullseye for what they called a "Rupert Grint project."
I really wish it had been something other than DL, but I'm sure whatever they have planned for it will help their ratings along, since the movie is receiving plenty of recognition.
I am happy for Dan, though, it sounds like a good project and he seems very excited to do it. Way to go Dan!

Its amusing to see people "singing a different tune" now about ITV which supposedly is a "bad" station -- but its not nearly as amusing as watching these same people getting the "foot-in-mouth" disease LOL
I want to see Daniel HOT Radcliffe in uniform, he is a telented young actor and it looks like there is going to be more than Harry on Dan's future!
What I want to know is if this movie is going to be seen on North American shores? I was not aware of Mr. Kipling's true life tragedy, and am looking much forward to seeing this.
Now if only we could get Emma Watson in a lesbian period drama for ITV or something...
