Although Radio Times still has a schedule showing for the next few days at least, it appears that ABC1 has shut down completely. It was known that the Disney-owned channel would be leaving Freeview, but apparently the decision has been made to shut down across all platforms. The website merely says:
We regretfully announce that Walt Disney Television will no longer be transmitting abc1 on any of the UK TV platforms (Freeview, cable or satellite) after September 2007. Walt Disney Television would like to thank its viewers for watching the channel and interacting with the website. It’s been a great few years and we appreciate your viewership.
Ah, well. We’ll have to go elsewhere for the umpteenth rerun of 8 Simple Rules from now on…
Really disappointed to hear about the closure of ABC 1 on Sky.
I really love Hope and Faith, Rodney, Ellen and of course the brilliant Home improvement.
I watched this channel more or less every day for the last three years and it always gave me a lift when feeling low or unwell, by providing a great selection of comedy and likeable characters.
Thanks to all at ABC 1, and hope something similar appears on Sky soon.
I was gutted when I got home from work yesterday to turn to abc1 only to find "this service is no longer available" this was pretty much the only channel I ever had on my TV... and 8 simple rules, hope & faith and hope improvement aren't show anywhere else.... damnn
Im so disappointed that ABC1 has gone i only have freeview and it was the only channel i ever watched loved home improvement
i so hope they bring it back or something similar

It sad that this channel closed, I did not watch it everyday, but every so often.
Pity they could not get on Freeview 24 hours per day, they seem to get a few more +1 channels on there now ?
i miss abc1 sooooooooo much i used to watch it on freeview but it used to go off at 6. till i found out it was on 24 hours on cable. so i got cable so i could watch it when i wanted. then they pulled the chanel. all i seem to do theses days it flick through channels. i dont think this is fair. was we asked if we did not want it. i found this very upsetting. thanx disney for not caring. i guess your all about kids. why give us something when the kids have gone to bed. we are not all into hanna montana and raven. thanx alot disney for nothing ....
