Strictly Come Dancing, week 2: You Be The Judge

Strictly Come Dancing on TV Today

Who will join Phil and Flavia on the sidelines after this week? This week, it’s the turn of the lady celebrities and their partners, and we’ll be treated with four foxtrots and four salsas. It does seem a bit of an odd combination of disciplines — one highly technical ballroom dance, and a much more loose Latin style. Let’s hope that the judges — including those at home with their telephones in their hands — appreciate the differences.

Download this week’s Strictly Scoresheet — right-click the link and select “Save As…” or similar option, and then print out both pages.

Our ‘official’ review will be online after the results show. Before then, come back here with your scores and review the show amongst yourselves!

All right,- the Norwegian Jury is tapping her foot, ready and waiting. (Yes, Scott dear,- I have printed out the score sheet!)

Hi Scott. Well the women will have to work hard to match the men.
Jessie Wallace & Darren Bennett Salsa
Movements not fluid, she does move well at times. Looked like she was doing a series of sections of the dance put together. I had another Craig moment, I was a bit bored. 6

Christine Bleakley & Matthew Cutler Foxtrot
Very graceful. Liked her arms. I couldn’t see her feet. I liked it. Why was Matthew doing goldfish mouths during the routine? 7

Lisa Snowdon & Brendan Cole Salsa
Sorry Lisa, I only caught a little of your dance. (I was watching Brendan). What I did see didn’t seem to be the Latin vigour that the dance deserved. Legs looked a bit slow and heavy. (Wasn’t Brendan good though?) 6

Jodie Kidd & Ian Waite Foxtrot
Brilliant routine. She was very elegant. I didn’t think the feet were too bad. I loved it. (Can’t wait for when Ian tries to lift her, she looks like she could lift him more easily.) 7

Heather Small & Brian Fortuna Salsa
She had the moves and was the best Salsa so far. Again I didn’t feel the joy of the dance, a bit clinical. 7

Gillian Taylforth & Anton Du Beke Foxtrot
She looked a little stiff when she did the backwards dip. It was OK, but not exciting. Start and end were good. 6

Rachel Stevens & Vincent Simone Salsa
Hips not moving except for a couple of parts of the dance. I expected much more. Again it didn’t feel like a party dance, with joy. (The judges must have seen more than me). 6

Cherie Lunghi & James Jordan Foxtrot
She glided, she sparkled. Good arms and hands, lovely neck and head carriage. The best of the night, by a good way. 9

Wow Tom and Austin. Mark has been taking lessons from Weepy again, looked odd. Gary get your head position sorted out.

1. Jessie Wallace & Darren Bennet - salsa: 7
Jessie has very good rythm, and can certainly "jiggle it a bit". Better arm movements is needed.
The dress did her no favours.

2. Christine Bleakley & matthew Cutler - foxtrot: 7
Very smooth, very elegant. Not technically very difficult.

3. Lisa Snowdon & Nrendan Cole - salsa: 5
She's very stiff. Does the right steps, but with no life in them.

4. Jodie Kidd & Ian Waite - foxtrot: 6
Again elegant, but more contained than the first foxtrot.
Beautiful dress.

5. Heather Small & Brian Fortune - salsa : 6
She tripped over her own feet a couple of times, but great potential!

6. Gillian Taylforth & Anton Du Beke - foxtrot: 6
She was clinging to Anton for dear life, but she moves well.
Love the dress.

7. Rachel Stevens & Vincent Simone - salsa: 8
Very, very good. The best dance of the evening.

8. Cheri Lunghi & james Jordan - foxtrot: 8
Booooootiful! The dress is gorgeous!

I am very impressed with the high standard of the ladies. There was no obviously dunce. I disagree with the judges putting Jessie last. I thought she was good, better than the score tells. The bottom two for me was Gillian and Jodie.

The men's group dance was fun. John was a big surprise, very good rythm. Tom and Austin sexy, Gary awkward.

Ok I'm on it now!

Jessie & Darren 5 She was good, but i thought she looked untidy.

Christine & Matthew 8 I loved her I thought she looked elegant and showed great potential.

Lisa & Brendon 6 Very stiff in the shoulders for me. Goos but didn't make me want todance.

Jodie & Ian 7 Excellent far far better than I thought she would be for such a very tall lady, though how she will handle faster dances?

Heather &Brian 7 i thought she had great rythm. Think her nerves showed through, if she can beat those I think she'll be great.

Gillian & Anton 6. Bit of an iffy dress for me this one! She did quite well but did seem to be clinging on for dear life sometimes.

Rachel & Vincent 8 Probably the best Salsa, but it did lack the party spirit for me. Maybe a big ask first week, but didn't blow me away for some reason.

Cheri & James 9 Amazing! She looked and moved beautifully, loved her. Best of the night for me.

Very high standard for first week. Shame to lose any of them really!

Men gave a good performance, very enjoyable. John Sargeant is so sweet! Love Tom Chambers and Austin Healy.

1. Jessie Wallace & Darren Bennet Salsa 5
Jessie was wiggling but not in time to the music trying really hard but just not convincing - I can only think of Ramps and Karen in Salsa this was not the same party at all.

2. Christine Bleakley & Matthew Cutler Foxtrot 6
Quite good and her dress completely covered her legs and feet which was probably a good thing though her arms were very elegant

3. Lisa Snowdon & Brendan Cole Salsa 6
Thought this was very good technically but there was no joy in it.

4. Jodie Kidd & Ian Waite Foxtrot 6
Quite good - loved the high kicks over his head at the beginning, showed promise.

5. Heather Small & Brian Fortuna Salsa 7
Some brave moves - she did the Karen neck drop very well. Best salsa so far

6. Gillian Taylforth & Anton Du Beke Foxtrot 6
Anton is such a star and he almost carried her round but she looked lovely and performed better than most sadly I can't see them lasting much longer.

7. Rachel Stevens & Vincent Simone Salsa 7
Great start to the dance and it was very good throughout but lacking in fun though technically very difficult.

8. Cherie Lunghi & James Jordan Foxtrot 8
Her ballet training was a long time ago but she still has great posture and moves really well - very elegant best of the night.

Boys group dance - loved it. Don was moving well. I watched Gary Rhodes closely and I have to say he really was trying hard and much more in time with the music, well done. Tom was great, Austin very good too. John was very sweet but struggling to cope may need the sympathy vote to go much further. Mark still very stiff almost clumsy. Andrew still hiding behind his partner.

For me none of the couples has really clicked yet but it is early days, I fancy a man to win this year.

Carys,- shame on you! Fancy a man, do you?
OK, I'm ready again. I think it's going to be hard to see the ladies go.

I loved the routine of the three new professionals, but I just can't take to Brian Fortuna. There is something slick/oily about him.

Jill and Darren,- she's still up there with the best of them! Btw. didn't she have a baby a short while ago? Yes, they just said she had a boy, Harvey Bruce!

For once I was right about the dance off: Gillian and Jodie. I really can't say who I want to go.

I'm glad Jessie got another chance. It was all those stupid tassles on her dress which were out of rythm, not Jessie!

Oh well, that's Gillian gone, and now it's time for Poirot on the other channel.

Well a bit of a shock that Jessie was saved, though being last it is almost a given! Of jodie and Gillian the right one went for me, but very tough as there really wasn't a 'bad' lady.

I agree Gillian was not as good as Jodie. Loved seeing Jill again.

The girl from Lost In Austen (Miss Price) is in Poirot. She's a lovely girl.
